Minimum Wage
The Rhode Island Minimum Wage posting has been revised with the following minimum wage rates effective January 1, 2023:

  • All employees – $13.00 per hour
  • Full-time students under 19 years of age working in nonprofit organizations – $11.70 per hour
  • Minors 14 and 15 years of age working less than 24 hours in a week – $9.75 per hour
Pay Equity Act

Pursuant to Senate Bill 270, employers are prohibited from paying any employee less than the employees of another race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, age, or ancestral origin for comparable work. Comparable work is defined as “work that requires substantially similar skill, effort, and responsibility, and is performed under similar working conditions.” The Pay Equity Act also prohibits the use of salary history in setting a prospective employee’s pay, requires transparency around salary ranges, and protects employees who discuss their pay.

Who must post?
  • Every employer subject to the Rhode Island Minimum Wage Act is required to post and maintain the Minimum Wage posting in a conspicuous and accessible place in the workplace. (RI General Laws § 28-12-11)
  • Every employer is required to post the Pay Equity Act posting in a conspicuous place where employees are employed. (RI General Laws § 28-6-18)
  • Every employer who has 15 or more employees is required to post the Federal Know Your Rights: Workplace Discrimination is Illegal in a place where it can be seen by employees and applicants. (42 USC 2000e-10)
