What’s new?
Indiana Senate Bill 409 went into effect on April 1, 2020, making substantial changes to Indiana’s youth employment law. The new law is now located in Title 22 of the Indiana Code. Changes in the law are reflected on the revised Teen Work Hour Restrictions posting.
Highlights of the changes include:
  • Times of day and number of hours 14- and 15-year-olds may work now parallel federal child labor standards, except to prohibit working after 7 p.m. on any day followed by a school day;
  • Times of day and number of hours that may be worked each day and week by 16- and 17-year-olds are now the same;
  • Break requirements have been eliminated;
  • Most parental permissions, written school permissions and Work Permit Termination Notice have been eliminated; and
  • Bureau of Child Labor has changed to Bureau of Youth Employment.
Who must post? 
Every employer of a minor who is at least 14 years of age and under 18 years of age must post and keep posted the Indiana Teen Work Hour Restrictions posting in a conspicuous place or places where employee notices are customarily posted. (Indiana Code 22-2-18-39)
