Colorado Announces Proposed Minimum Wage Increase for 2014

Colorado’s Department of Labor and Employment has announced its Minimum Wage Order 30, a proposed increase in the state minimum wage rate. The proposal is in accordance with Article XVIII, Section 15, of the Colorado Constitution and under authority granted the Division of Labor in §8-6-106, §8-6-108(2), and §8-6-109, C.R.S. (2013), that the Director of the Division of Labor adopt Colorado Minimum Wage Order Number 30 reflecting a new state minimum wage.

The proposed wage rate is $8.00 per hour and $4.98 per hour for employees who regularly receive tips.  This represents a $ 0.22 cent increase over last year. Upon approval the rate increases will be effective January 1, 2014. Currently the minimum wage is $7.78 per hour with the tipped employee rate at $4.76 per hour.

Each year Colorado’s minimum wage rate is adjusted up or down for inflation. The rate of inflation is measured by the Consumer Price Index.
