Rhode Island’s Governor Signs Legislation Raising State Minimum Wage

Governor Lincoln Chafee recently signed legislation raising the state’s minimum wage.  The minimum wage rate will increase by one dollar from the current $8.00 per hour to $9.00 per hour effective January 1, 2015.

So far there are four additional states with minimum wage increases effective January 1, 2015. They are Hawaii, Massachusetts, Vermont and West Virginia. There are also a number of states and cities with ballot measures to raise minimum wage rates. We will have to wait until November to find out the verdict. In the meantime, Compliance Poster Company’s HR Research and Compliance Team is tracking state and federal legislation, city ordinances and ballot measures to bring you developments as they occur.
