On Monday August 18th the San Diego City Council will meet to discuss overriding Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s veto of the city ordinance to increase the minimum wage. A special meeting has been called because overrides must be considered within 30 days of a mayoral veto. In order to override the veto the City Council will need to secure six (6) votes.
The ordinance originally passed by a count of 6 for and 3 against a minimum wage increase. Even though these are fairly good odds, there will be hurdles to overcome. If the City Council passes the override, opponents will have 30 days to gather enough signatures to stop the wage increase by placing it on hold for a future ballot or special election.
