Minimum Wage Raise Passes in Alaska, Nebraska and South Dakota

Voters in the states of Alaska, Nebraska and South Dakota voted in favor of ballot initiatives to raise their state minimum wage on Election Day. In Alaska, the minimum wage rate will increase from $7.75 per hour to $8.75 per hour beginning January 1, 2015. The rate will then be increased to $9.75 per hour by 2016. The measure also requires an annual increase in the minimum wage to adjust for inflation.

In Nebraska, the minimum wage rate will increase from $7.25 per hour to $8.00 per hour on January 1, 2015, and then to $9.00 per hour at the beginning of 2016. As for South Dakota, the minimum wage will increase from $7.25 to $8.50 per hour on January 1, 2015. Like Alaska, the measure also mandates an increase in the minimum wage each year to adjust for inflation.
