The Attorney General’s Office of Massachusetts has recently released an updated Fair Employment posting that includes information on two new laws. All employers with six or more employees are protected under the Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 151B and are required to replace any outdated postings.
As previously mentioned in our blog, the Massachusetts Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights extends employment protections to domestic workers. The new law covers hours of employment, wage deductions, privacy rights, protection against discrimination, and requirements when an employer terminates a domestic worker with a cause. The second law, an Act to Parental Leave, amends Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 149, Section 105D and expands on provisions in the Maternity Leave Act. With this law, male employees are entitled to eight weeks of job-related leave for the adoption or birth of a child. The employee is still required to provide employer with a two week notice if he or she plans to take a parental leave. If the two week notice is not possible, an employee may provide notice as “soon as practicable.”
Changes are effective immediately. Employers can comply by posting the updated Massachusetts All-On-OneTM Labor Law poster or by purchasing the exclusive Massachusetts 2015 Fair Employment Peel ‘N PostTM.
