What’s changed?
Under Massachusetts’ Paid Family and Medical Leave Law (HB 4640), Massachusetts employers must provide paid family and medical leave to employees. Starting in 2021, employees may be eligible for up to 12 weeks of paid family leave and up to 20 weeks of paid medical leave in a benefit year.
Employers are required to post the new Massachusetts Paid Family and Medical Leave notice in a place accessible to all employees in the workplace. The notice describes:
  • availability of family and medical leave benefits;
  • who is a covered individual under the law;
  • the right to job protection; and
  • the right to be free from discrimination or retaliation for requesting paid family or medical leave.
Who is required to post?
All Massachusetts employers must display the Massachusetts Paid Family and Medical Leave notice by July 1, 2019, in a location where it can be easily read. (Massachusetts General Laws, Ch. 175M, Sec. 4(a))
What else do I need to know?
All Massachusetts employers are required to provide written notices to employees and independent contractors on or before June 30, 2019. The written notices can be downloaded from our Free Labor Law Compliance Postings webpage.
