Massachusetts has required changes to the Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) mandatory-to-post UI notice. The DUA administers the Unemployment Insurance (UI) program which provides temporary income assistance to separated Massachusetts workers, those unemployed through no fault of their own. The individuals must be:
- Able to work,
- Available for work, and
- Looking for a job.
On July 1, 2013, DUA launched a state-of-the-art, web-based UI system to enhance the way it serves customers. The new online method for conducting UI-related business is one of the most dramatic improvements. It makes filing easier as well as expedites UI payments to unemployed workers. Additionally, the technology upgrades strengthen DUA’s ability to prevent, detect, and recover fraudulent UI payments.
So how do affected individual’s benefit from the technology enhancements?
Workers can apply for benefits, reopen existing claims, request weekly benefit payment, check claim status, sign-up for direct deposit, update contact information, and even file an appeal all online.
