Your Rights Under Illinois Employment Laws
Changes include:

  • Minimum wage rates effective January 1, 2025:
    • Employers with 4 or more employees – $15.00 per hour
    • Tipped employees – $9.00 per hour
    • Youths working fewer than 650 hours per year – $13.00 per hour
  • Child Labor section shows new work hours limitations for 14- and 15 year-old employees.
  • Unpaid Wages section shows that employers are required to provide employees with a paystub for every pay period.
  • Violent Crime Victims’ Leave section shows that specified employees are entitled to 2 additional weeks of leave for certain reasons relating to a family or household member’s death due to a crime of violence.
  • Equal Pay Act section shows that published job postings must include the position’s pay and benefits.

Victims’ Economic Security and Safety Act (VESSA)
The updated posting details the eligibility requirements under VESSA as of January 1, 2024, allowing qualifying employees to take 2 weeks of additional VESSA leave for certain reasons relating to the death of a family or household member in a violent crime.

Pay Transparency Updates to the Illinois Equal Pay Act of 2003
The new posting details the Equal Pay Act’s requirements for pay transparency in posted job opportunities, including:

  • Whether the employer or the position or opportunity for promotion is subject to the law.
  • What information must be included in the advertised position.
  • How to file a complaint, employee protection from retaliation, and penalty information.

Illinois Worker Freedom of Speech Act
The new posting describes the Worker Freedom of Speech Act (WFSA) which prohibits employers from discharging, disciplining, or threating adverse employment action against employees:

  • For declining to participate in employer-sponsored meetings or communications about religious or political matters.
  • To induce employees’ participation in employer-sponsored meetings or communications about religious or political matters.
  • For reporting a violation or suspected violation of the WFSA.

Illinois Veterans Benefits and Services
The new posting contains:

  • Contact information and QR codes for State and federal government resources available to Illinois veterans.
  • The Veteran Crisis Hotline and the Military and Veterans Rights Helpline.
