Employee Rights in the District of Columbia

Under the District of Columbia Code, Section 32-161, employers are required to display this posting in a conspicuous place accessible to all employees in or about the premises of the workplace. The posting includes information on the rights and benefits to which an individual is entitled under District of Columbia labor and anti-discrimination laws.

Minimum Wage
The Minimum Wage posting has been updated with the minimum wage rates effective as of July 1, 2024. The general minimum wage is $17.50 per hour. The base minimum wage for tipped employees is $10.00 per hour. All employers are required to display this posting in a conspicuous and accessible place in each establishment. (7 DCMR § 912)

Wage Transparency: Mandatory Workplace Communications

Under the Wage Transparency Act, all private sector employers must include in all job listings the minimum and maximum projected pay for the job. Employers must inform applicants before the first interview of the healthcare benefits that employees may receive. Employers may not screen applicants based on their wage history. Employers must also post a notice of employee rights under the Act in the workplace. (DC Code § 32-1453.02)

District of Columbia Equal Employment Opportunity & Protecting Pregnant Workers Fairness Act

Both postings have been substantially reformatted. All employers are required to post and maintain these postings in a conspicuous location of the workplace. (DC Code 32-521.06; 32-1231.04)
