New Jersey 2025 Legislative Update

This post is to provide you with a legislative update for New Jersey:

NJ S 4400 Working Hours for Minors

The law allows 14- and 15-year-old professional athletes to work following 11:30 p.m. when employment continues from a workday that began before 11:30 p.m. but extends later due to return travel or match/game time delays. These minors must have a special written permit from parents or legal guardian stating permitted work hours. The law is now effective.

NJ S 4506 Minor League Baseball Players Wage Laws

The law exempts minor league baseball players from certain New Jersey wage and hour laws, including specific overtime and recordkeeping requirements. This exemption only applies if the players are covered by a valid collective bargaining agreement that expressly governs their wages and working conditions. The league and the union are required to notify the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development if the collective bargaining agreement is terminated or replaced to ensure players do not lose legal protections. The law is now effective.
