The Puerto Rico Department of Labor and Human Resources (Departamento del Trabajo y Recursos Humanos) has revised the Unemployment Insurance notice with updated information on how to apply for benefits.
To be considered eligible for unemployment benefits, claimants must submit an initial claim through the Claimant’s Services Web Portal. Claimants must be physically able to work, available for work, and ready and willing to accept work immediately. The Claimant’s Services Web Portal is available 24 hours, 7 days a week.
WHAT CHANGED ON THE PUERTO RICO UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE NOTICE?
The Puerto Rico Unemployment Insurance notice has been redesigned in both visual design and text. The notice’s title has been changed from “Centro de tramite telefonico de seguro por desempleo” to “Notificacion sobre la disponidad de beneficios del seguro por desempleo.” The notice has an orange heading and subheading, and two new state department of labor logos. The revision date on the notice has been updated to June 1, 2020.
To make sure individuals who have lost their jobs or their work hours have been reduced apply for unemployment benefits, a new website link where claims must be submitted has been added to the notice. Additionally, a list of information that will be needed when processing an unemployment claim is provided. Employers are required to add their business name, address, phone number, and email address registered under the Puerto Rico Department of Labor and Human Resources on the notice.
The Puerto Rico Unemployment Insurance notice is a mandatory notice for all employers with individuals engaged in employment in the state of Puerto Rico. It must be posted and maintained in conspicuous places where workers perform their services so that the information may be read by all workers. Additionally, employers are required to provide notification of the availability of unemployment insurance compensation to employees at the time of separation.
