Pennsylvania Contractors Have One More Hoop To Jump Thru

The State of Independence has a new law affecting contractors and subcontractors; cited as the Public Works Employment Verification Act. Effective January 1, 2013 Pennsylvania public works contractors and subcontractors will be required to participate in the E-Verify Program (EVP) and conduct employment verifications of each new employee.  Hassle or not – this is a precondition for being awarded a contract for a public works project. To ensure compliance with the law, the Department of General Services will conduct complaint-based and random audits of public works contractors and subcontractors in the Commonwealth.

What is E-Verify?

It is an internet-based system that allows an employer to compare information from an employee’s I-9 form to data from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration records to confirm employment eligibility.

Did you know… under the guidelines of the E-Verify Program employers are required to conspicuously display two (2) posters; The E-Verify Participation and Right to Work Posters.  Need more information about the required posters?  Give CPC a call at 800-817-7678.
